A southern Illinois social service agency is getting more than two million dollars to better support children's mental health needs in the region.
Centerstone will use the $2.1 million award from the Illinois Children's Healthcare Foundation to bolster its programs focusing on resiliency and trauma-informed care. Leaders say those programs help teachers, community members, and others interact with the whole child and understand what they may be dealing with in other situations.
The six-year grant will include collaboration with SIU's School of Medicine, Shawnee Health Service, Southern Illinois Healthcare, and numerous schools and community organizations.
