Friday afternoon 7 dogs will get a new home and owner, and veterans will get some much-needed help as they navigate their world.
This Able Veteran provides service dogs to veterans at no cost.
They start their training at 8 weeks and spend the next 12 to 18 months perfecting their specialized training to meet their specific veteran’s needs.
This Able Veteran President Pam Largent says after the dogs are trained, they train the veterans for three weeks before graduation.
“We train them on how to work with the dog, we do a lot of work around bonding with the dog, getting them to understand how to get the best use from the dog and the dog’s skills.”
The dogs are trained to help with PTSD, mobility, retrieving items, open doors and more.
