COVID-19 has shut down the Massac County Early Learning Center for one week following two confirmed cases in the facility.
The Southern Seven Health Department says the center will be closed for remote learning from October 19 to October 23. Classes will resume in person on October 26.
Head Start learned last Sunday, the first person tested positive the day before and subsequently closed a classroom for two weeks. They later learned on Thursday that a second individual, who was also tested last weekend, had tested positive. Both persons had not been in the facility since their testing date. The center was closed today as part of regular weekly remote learning.
It was determined that both cases occurred within 14 days of each other, which according to the Illinois Department of Public Health, constitutes a reason to temporarily close a facility.
