Illinois officials say they're watching numbers carefully to detect potential trends or problems

Illinois' COVID data shows transmission rates are holding steady this week compared to last week.

Eighteen Illinois counties are listed in "elevated" transmission territory according to CDC data - with 14 in medium and four in the high category: Franklin, Jackson, Perry, and Williamson.

IDPH Director Doctor Sameer Vohra says the agency is keeping a close eye on southern Illinois in particular - to make sure the spread of the virus remains at manageable levels for healthcare providers, and the disease itself is manageable for those who contract it.

Vohra says there are other respiratory illnesses circulating at the same time, so patients with symptoms should check with their healthcare provider to make sure they have the best treatment plan in place.

More than 10,000 new cases of COVID were reported over the last week, along with 52 new deaths. More information is available at our website, and via IDPH and the CDC.
