A southern Illinois school cook wins a statewide nutrition champion award

The head cook at a southern Illinois school is being recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Katie Ford of Shawnee District 84 in Union County is the recipient of the 2023 School Nutrition Champion Award.

Food service personnel throughout the state are eligible to be nominated for this award.

A committee of ISBE staff selects a winner based on career history and qualifications, how they go above and beyond, and best practices. Administrative reviews and health department inspections are also considered in the selection process.

ISBE will honor Ford formally at the start of the 2023-24 academic year.
