Get Checked for Colon Cancer

SIH

Free Colon Cancer testing is available to Southern Illinois patients.

Free Colon Cancer testing is available to Southern Illinois patients. Patients between the ages of 45 and 75 years old without a family history of colon cancer and who have not had a colonoscopy in the last ten years are eligible.

Dr. Jason West with SIH Primary Health Care in Harrisburg discussed how the pre-paid mail kit can help remove the nerves that can come with Colon Cancer Screening.

"If you're willing to do it, go through the prep that's just a day in the bathroom. Not that big of a deal. The next day you can get it done within 20 to 30 minutes. It's a short outpatient procedure. People tolerate it very well. Complication rates are low. And again, you can save your own life by doing that."

Testing will occur on March 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Herrin Hospital, and Harrisburg Medical Center in the main lobbies.
