The American Red Cross is calling for new volunteers to support its mission in 2025, as disasters grow more frequent and severe.
Interim CEO Catherine Rabenstine highlighted the urgent need for help, with the organization responding to twice as many large disasters compared to a decade ago.
Key volunteer roles include Disaster Action Team members, Disaster Recovery Care providers, and Disaster Mental Health professionals. Volunteers also support biomedical services, such as assisting blood donors and transporting lifesaving blood products.
Locally, Red Cross volunteers recently aided 29 people affected by home fires across Illinois.
