Illinois' first document case of measles is in southern Illinois. The Illinois Department of Public Health says the case in Marion was confirmed Wednesday.

The patient is an unvaccinated adult. a public health investigation is underway. State health officials say there are 8-locations in Marion that the infected adult may have come in contact with others between April 7th and April 15th. Those include the clinic where the individual sought care along with Don Sol, Legacy Fitness, Walmart, Kroger, Wonder Wash Laundry, Easy Coin Laundry, and Small Star Laundry all in Marion. I-D-P-H officials say persons exposed will be contacted to determine immune status. Those susceptible will be monitored for symptoms and asked to quarantine.

This is the only confirmed case in the state. Measles symptoms may take from seven to 21 days to emerge. Symptoms include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. State public health officials say two doses of the measles/mumps/rubella vaccine are 97% effective in preventing measles.
