Polar Bear Citations Down From A Year Ago

Carbondale Police have released statistics from last weekend's Polar Bear event in Carbondale.

Carbondale Police, the SIU Department of Public Safety, and Illinois State Police say they issued a preliminary 91 citations. That's down from 116 citations last year at this event.
There were 84 citations for underage drinking and public possession of alcohol. That's down from 90 a year ago. Other citations included battery and public urination.

Seven violations occurred during compliance checks at local establishments. There were two at Pinch Penny Pub, two at Stix, and three at Levels.

Of the 89 individuals cited, 30 indicated they were SIU students, 33 said they were students at another college or university.
