A Jackson County jury has convicted a Memphis, Tennessee man on two counts of Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon and one count of Resisting a Peace Officer.
The Jackson County State's Attorney says 35-year-old Rodney Boyd faces a mandatory minimum sentence of two to ten years in prison. Resisting a Peace Officer is a Misdemeanor.
On July 4th, Boyd was a passenger in a vehicle seen in the 1200 block of North Bridge Street in Carbondale, where shots were reportedly fired.
Officers later spotted the vehicle Boyd was in, chased it for several blocks, until it eventually stopped. Boyd jumped from the car, ran away from police, before he was caught.
Boyd, a convicted felon, admitted to officers at the time of his arrest that he possessed two guns and ammunition. But, the audio portion of the video statement did not record the interview. The jury rejected Boyd's defense that he had not made any admissions at all and the guns may have been tossed in the path where he ran by others.
