A peaceful demonstration in Springfield, IL

The City of Anna has been approached with a request to hold a peaceful demonstration on Thursday.

On his Facebook page, Chief of Police Bryan Watkins indicated the caller described her request as a peaceful demonstration to express her First Amendment rights.
The Anna Police Department reports it has been in contact with the organizer of the demonstration and officers have taken measures to ensure the safety of local residents and the people involved in the demonstration, as well as the protection of property.

Watkins says the police department urges participants to park at the Anna City Park and walk to the demonstration area, because parking will be an issue.

Meanwhile, the Anna Police Department is receiving a $125,000 grant from the Department of Justice.

The funding comes from the justice department's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services Hiring Program.

The Anna PD can use the money to hire additional full-time law enforcement staff and enhance community policing strategies.
