A Georgia man has been arrested for trafficking more than 5,000 grams of cannabis in Jefferson County.

The Illinois State Police reports 48-year old Mikhail Subbotin of Lawrenceville, Georgia is charged with Possession of Cannabis, Cannabis Trafficking, and Possession with Intent to Deliver Cannabis.

Late Wednesday morning, a trooper patrolling in the area of Interstate 64 eastbound near milepost 71 stopped Subbotin's vehicle for speeding.

The Trooper smelled cannabis coming from the vehicle and a consensual search of the vehicle revealed several boxes filled with suspected cannabis.

Law enforcement eventually removed over 400 pounds of cannabis from the vehicle.

Subbotin is in the Jefferson County Jail.
