Man identified in Williamson County officer involved shooting

An investigation is underway into an officer involved shooting Friday in Williamson County.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office requested Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigations Zone 7 investigate the incident that occurred in the 23000 block of Drake Road in Creal Springs.

Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a man, now identified as 43-year-old Jesse Shelton of Marion, had forced entry into a residence. The woman at the residence confronted Shelton who then fled into the woods.

Deputies canvassed the area, including the deployment of a Sheriff’s Office K9, which led them several hundred yards through the woods to the location of another residence on Pleasant Valley Road.

While at the residence, Deputies located a man, matching the description of Shelton on Drake Road, who had forced his way into a second residence. He produced a firearm and directed it toward multiple Deputies. A Deputy fired his weapon, killing Shelton.
