Anthony Copeland took the role as Carbondale's new police chief in September. Copeland spent time at a meet and greet with residents on Tuesday.
The Carbondale Chapter of the NAACP, Beyond the Walls Movement, and the Black Graduate Greek Council hosted Carbondale's new Police Chief Anthony Copeland at an event to introduce him to the community.
Copeland was named to the city's top law enforcement spot in July.
He talked about his career starting out as an officer in Baltimore to becoming the assistant chief in Paducah. And from there applying for and taking the top job in Carbondale.
Copeland also talked about how good policing means residents and his officers to working to ensure a safer city.
Stacye Saunders was one of the community members present to meet with the new chief.
She's the Family Resource Center coordiantor with Carbondale Middle School said she liked what she heard from the chief. Working with adolescents is a priority for her.
She hopes to see more collaboration to support the youth in the community. And from what she's heard, Chief Copeland has been clear about what he hopes to accomplish.
Copeland says getting it's a priority of his to get himself and his officers out of the cars and into the streets working with residents.
Through his interactions with the community Copeland says he's seen their willingness to work together and move the city of Carbondale forward.
