Ferne Clyffe State Park will mark its 75th anniversary with a public celebration on Saturday, September 21 at the park, which is on Illinois 37 about a mile south of Goreville and 12 miles south of Marion.

Marking National Teen Voter Registration Day Tuesday, Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias reported that nearly 50,000 16- and 17-year-olds have taken advantage of a new law that enables them to pre-register to vote before turning 18.

JOPPA, Ill. – On September 1, 2022, the coal-fired Joppa Power Plant closed its doors after 70 years of operating. This event marked a significant shift for the residents of Joppa, a town of fewer than 400 residents. The end of operations at the Joppa Power Plant left a void in the community, but for one Joppa family, it also opened doors.

Providers actively enrolled in the Illinois Medicaid program will need to revalidate their enrollment status to continue providing services to Medicaid customers and bill Medicaid. This federal requirement was temporarily discontinued during the COVID-19 federal public health emergency. The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS), which administers the Illinois Medicaid program, is resuming that practice effective today.

SPRINGFIELD – Governor JB Pritzker issued a Disaster Proclamation following the severe weather and flooding that affected Cook County, Henry County, Fulton County, St. Clair County, Washington County, Winnebago County, and Will County on July 13 through July 16. This proclamation comes after the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS), in collaboration with local governments, concluded extensive field work to assess the damage and destruction caused by the storms in communities across Illinois.

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that transformational improvements to Chicago-to-St. Louis passenger rail, including the introduction of higher speeds, won top honors among Midwest states in the 2024 America's Transportation Awards in the “Quality of Life/Community Development, Large Project” category. Delivered in 2023 by IDOT under the leadership of Gov. JB Pritzker, the multi-year project on the state’s most popular rail line established 110 mph speeds for the first time in Illinois, helping to better connect communities and major institutions while improving safety, convenience and accessibility.
