So IL Senator Favors Full Day of School

The first and last days of school would be longer in many Illinois public school districts, under a bill which awaits a vote in the state Senate.

State Senator Dave Luechtefeld of Okawville is sponsoring legislation which would require a full day - no fewer than five hours - on the first and last days of the school year in Illinois.  Luechtefeld taught school for more than 30-years.  He says Most schools have about an hour or two the first day and the last day another hour, and they go home.   Luechtefeld says the buses even sometimes wait at school which he says seems like a waste of time.

The bill defines a school day as no fewer than five hours. The bill has passed the Senate Education Committee.

The bill is S.B.2850
