Some IEA Members Oppose Union Endorsement of Rep. Bost

Logo

A professor at John A. Logan College is circulating a petition opposing the Illinois Education Association's endorsement of 12th District Congressman Mike Bost.
History professor David Cochran says over 25 current and retired educators have signed the petition so far. He says Representative Bost supports people such as the U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, who do not have the best interest of students in mind.

"He's a consistent supporter of Betsy DeVos' education agenda, which is anti-student and anti-education."

Cochran says the Trump administration's agenda is hurtful to education because it shifts funds from public to private schools and eliminates loan forgiveness programs for students defrauded by for-profit colleges.

Cochran says ideally, the IEA will drop its endorsement of Congressman Bost, but he doesn't expect that to happen.

"I just could not sit back and let the public think that all the union members were on board with this endorsement."
