More than a dozen Democratic Senator’s including Illinois Senator Dick Durbin gathered to remember the one-year anniversary of the January 6th insurrection at the US Capitol on the Senate floor Thursday.
US Senator Dick Durbin was one of 17 Senators to speak on the Senate floor on the one year anniversary of the insurrection at the US Capitol.
One hundred and forty officers were injured and more than 725 arrests have been made in connection to the January 6 incident.
Senator Durbin says actions like this should never happen again.
“I hope that all of us, regardless of our political persuasion, the most conservative Republican to the most progressive Democrat independents, and between black, white and brown men and women, rural urban across America will finally come to agreement on one thing Violence has no place in a democracy.”
Investigators have gone through more than 20,000 hours of video footage.
Around 70 people have been sentenced including 30 receiving prison time.
