The Illinois Freedom Caucus has issued a strong statement condemning four former Illinois Republican officials for their public endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. The statement, released on August 6, 2024, highlights the Caucus’s disappointment and confusion over why these officials, traditionally aligned with Republican values, would support a candidate they deem to be radically leftist.
“Hating Donald Trump is one thing. We don’t agree with their assessment of the former president, but they’re entitled to their opinion,” the statement reads. “We do, however, question their judgment in publicly endorsing a far-left candidate like Kamala Harris.”
The Caucus criticized Harris for her positions on various issues, including immigration, healthcare, and social policies. They claim Harris supports "open borders," "taxpayer-funded handouts to illegals," "late-term abortion," and "changing the gender of children by mutilation and hormone blockers." The statement also blames her and President Joe Biden for economic issues such as record-breaking inflation, a significant increase in illegal border crossings, and a declining stock market that may signal an impending recession.
The Freedom Caucus argues that these positions are fundamentally opposed to the principles of the Republican Party. “Kamala Harris is the antithesis of everything the Republican Party as a political party represents. If these four former Republican officials do not want to support Donald Trump, then simply don’t vote. Voting for Kamala Harris is not a viable option for anyone who claims to be a Republican.”
The statement concludes by suggesting that the endorsement of Harris might indicate that these officials are more aligned with Democratic ideologies than Republican values. “Maybe the real story is not that a Republican is supporting Kamala Harris, but rather, it is just Democrats supporting a fellow Democrat.”
