Coming out of the 2024 election Republicans have seized control of the Senate.

John Jackson, visiting professor at the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute says that democrats now need to hold the House of Representatives.

"They've got the hope for holding the House." says Jackson," If they don't hold the House, there will be absolutely no constraints left institutionally on Donald Trump at all."

In order to keep control of the House democrats need to win 218 seats. Currently the party only has 198 seats but votes are still coming in.

If republicans are able to seize control of the house, both the legislative and executive branches of the government will be run by republicans.

Jackson says that if republicans take control of the House there will be no constraints on president elect Donald Trump but his own moral character, a fact many people don't find reassuring.
