Carbondale City Councilperson Clare Killman is calling on the State of Illinois to peacefully secede from the United States.

In a nearly 3-minute long video message on social media, Killman said Illinois is becoming "targets of a reorganized federal bureaucracy of sycophants and informants."

Killman said secession would protect Illinois from President-elect Donald Trump's autocratic regime and is in the spirit of what it means to be an Illinoisan.
