Illinois State Rep. Adam Niemerg is suing over what he calls an unconstitutional push to pass the state’s record $55 billion budget.
The Illinois Constitution requires every bill to be read on three separate days in each chamber. Niemerg says Democrats violated that rule, forcing the budget through late at night without proper scrutiny.
Calling the move “a slap in the face to Illinois taxpayers,” Niemerg says the process lacked transparency and respect.
The lawsuit was filed in Sangamon County Circuit Court.
