Less than two weeks after announcing his intention to run for re-election to his Illinois House seat, Representative Paul Jacobs now says he will run for Illinois’ 59th Senate District seat in the 2026 election, following Senator Dale Fowler’s decision not to seek re-election.
The Pomona republican says he is running to ensure the region continues to have strong, principled leadership in Springfield.
Jacobs has served in the Illinois House since 2021 and has been an outspoken advocate for core conservative causes. He is staunchly pro-life, a defender of the Second Amendment, and has opposed tax hikes as well as Illinois’ sanctuary city and sanctuary state policies.
Jacobs will be seeking the Republican nomination in the primary election scheduled for March 2026, with the general election in November 2026.
Jacobs also expressed gratitude for Senator Fowler’s service and vowed to build on his legacy.

(Pictured above) Fowler, a Harrisburg republican, says in a written release, his decision not to seek re-election upholds his promise back in 2016 not to serve more than ten years in office.
Fowler expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of southern Illinois and said he will continue the work of the Fowler Bonan Foundation Clothes for Kids, which provides children in need with a brand-new wardrobe to begin the school year and work on growing the foundation's Heaven’s Kitchen Food Pantry, which helps address food insecurity throughout southern Illinois.
