The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, in partnership with the Kaskaskia Regional Port District, is seeking public input on a new navigation improvement project aimed at enhancing the efficiency of Terminal 2 at the Kaskaskia Regional Port District. This project, authorized under the Corps' Continuing Authorities Program, proposes to dredge the river side channel leading to the terminal, specifically targeting the south oxbow area. The dredging will involve utilizing two designated dredge disposal areas to manage the removed sediment.

A draft feasibility report, which outlines the project’s Tentatively Selected Plan and includes an environmental assessment, will be available for public review starting August 28, 2024. Interested parties can access this report on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website.

Public comments on the draft report are encouraged and can be submitted through September 30, 2024. Feedback can be provided online, via email to kaskaskiaportcap107@usace.army.mil, or by mail to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, Attn: Programs and Project Management – Elizabeth Norrenberns, 1222 Spruce Street, St. Louis, MO 63103.

To further engage with the community, a public meeting will be held on September 12, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at the SWIC-Red Bud campus. This meeting will include a presentation at 6:30 p.m., followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions, discuss concerns, and provide feedback on the proposed improvements.
