A longtime former Carbondale City Council member will return to the body she left nearly a year ago.
During a special meeting Tuesday night the Carbondale City Council selected Corene McDaniel to fill the vacancy created when Don Monty resigned to become acting Mayor earlier this month.
McDaniel was one of three finalists for the post. She previously served for 12-years as a councilwoman. McDaniel left the council in April of 2013 after deciding not to run for re-election.
The other two finalists competing for the open council seat were local insurance agent Navreet Kang and former city employee Thomas Grant. A poll by the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce of its members found Grant to be their preferred candidate by a nearly 2-to-1 margin over McDaniel and Kang.
McDaniel's first official council meeting will be Tuesday.
