Welcome to the inaugural edition of Southern Illinois Wonders! WSIU Radio and the Illinois Humanities Council have joined together to explore the nooks and crannies of our region's cultural landscape. This new series features a diverse collection of artists, authors, and scholars from southern Illinois and beyond.

We kick off the series with a look at how this area of Illinois became know as "Egypt." General John A Logan Museum Director Mike Jones shares with us how that name has evolved over the years.
Mike Jones is a retired social studies teacher and a recipient of the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award. He currently serves as Director of the John A Logan Museum in Murphysboro.
Southern Illinois Wonders is a co-production of WSIU Radio and the Illinois Humanities Council. The Illinois Humanities Council is a non-profit organization that fosters cultural vitality in communities throughout the state.
Theme music for Southern Illinois Wonders is provided by Robert Bowlin.
