Welcome to Southern Illinois Wonders. Today we explore the history of steamboats on the Ohio River in Massac County.

Retired SIU Architecture Professor Bob Swenson grew up in Metropolis and has documented more than 60 steamboats that were built in the southern Illinois community beginning around 1855 and continuing through the turn of the century. He takes a closer looks at one of the Ohio River's most important boat-works for this edition of Southern Illinois Wonders.
That's Bob Swenson, steamboat historian and retired architecture professor at Southern Illinois University.
