The lockdown at the state's maximum security prison in Chester ended Thursday... well for the most part.
Illinois Department of Corrections Spokesperson Tom Shaer says that the lock down is over except for a medium-security unit, which is on a light lockdown for routine maintenance. The Menard Correctional Center was initially locked down on April 4th because officials found a dozen make shift weapons and gallons of homemade alcohol. along with juice and sugar used to make liquor.
Shaer says this rarely happens because there are regular checks of the facility. He says that it took 9 days to do a foot by foot search to ensure that all contraband was found.
