This week Alltel customers in southern Illinois will make the switch to AT&T.
AT&T is expanding its wireless reach in southern Illinois. Friday, the telecommunications company, officially dedicated it's new store in Carbondale. The expansion is part of $2.9-billion the company has invested in Illinois in the last three years. AT&T has acquired Alltel and its service area in southern Illinois. AT&T Vice President Nancy Garvey says that provides the Alltel service area with the speed of AT&T's wireless network. She says AT&T will be switching over some 40-thousand current Alltel customers in southern Illinois to the new network this week.
The new combined network now covers 24-counties in southern Illinois with company owned stores in Carbondale, Marion, and Mt. Vernon. The wireless provider also has authorized retail stores in Du Quoin, Harrisburg, Benton, West Frankfort, Fairfield, and Olney.
