Randy Moore to Seek Full Term on Appellate Court Bench

A judge assigned to the Appellate Court by the Illinois Supreme Court is now seeking a full term on the bench.

Randy Moore officially announced Tuesday he'll seek election to the Fifth District Appellate Court in Mt. Vernon. The same bench he has been serving on since January.
The Carterville native served for eight years in the First Circuit Court in Marion. Moore says running for judge is different from other campaigns.

"A judge can't campaign and say, 'vote for me because I'm going to give you this or that.' A judge can campaign and talk about his life story, who he is as a person, and his values."

Moore says his next order of business is to collect 100,000 signatures to appear on the ballot.

He says another one of the challenges of running for this seat is that the Fifth Judicial District covers 37 counties in central and southern Illinois.

"The area is actually represented by three congressmen, so that is very difficult, 'cause even a congressman has a hard time getting to know all the people in his district. So, when you have three, it's that much more difficult. It gives you an idea of the population of the district."

Moore announced his candidacy in front of the Fifth District Appellate Court House. His campaign manager is longtime State Senator Dave Luechtefeld.
