A Carterville pharmacist has been indicted for allegedly continuing to sell drugs after losing her pharmacist’s license.
Williamson County States attorney Brandon Zanotti announced the charges and arrest during a news conference this afternoon.
Zanotti says Tri-C pharmacy owner Kristy Schulmeister lost her pharmacist license in 2011 for improper delivery of drugs, failure to secure drugs and failure to notify the public of a pharmacist absence.
The Illinois Department of Professional Regulation contacted the Williamson county states attorney’s office for assistance in handling Schulmeister’s in the case.
Zanotti says a Williamson County grand jury returned a12 count indictment against Schulmeister on Thursday and she was arrested this morning.
“Ms Schulmeister had numerous chances and opportunities since 2011 to correct these deficiencies and to come into compliance. Even after law enforcement back in the summer, even after they intervened including but not limited to warnings, a cease and desist order, removing narcotics from her business, even the execution of a search warrant back in July, she continued to fraudulently order and dispense controlled medications.”
Each count against her carries a 1 to 5 year sentence in prison.
Shulmeister’s next court appearance will be December 21 at 9 am.
The pharmacy’s business license has also been suspended.
