A southern Illinois educator was recognized Monday morning for being an outstanding teacher.
Sabrina Gooden, a 4th grade teacher at Carterville Intermediate School in Carterville, received the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching.
The award recognizes outstanding teachers for having lasting, positive effects on students’ lives and school communities. Teacher recipients demonstrate – in their teaching and results – significant, positive impact on their students’ growth and learning.
Gooden is one of 10 teacher award recipients in Illinois.
Her approach to teaching uses interactive scenarios to teach her students about history, order, and how they can help solve problems such as global warming, leaving examples her students are more likely to remember and apply later in life.
