On Tuesday May 10th, 2016 a groundbreaking ceremony was held to announce that U.S. Army Sergeant 1st Class Jared Bullock (RET), of Metropolis Illinois, will have a new home built by the R.I.S.E. (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) program within the Gary Sinise Foundation.
Two years after the 9/11 attacks, Jared and his twin brother enlisted in the Army and, in October of 2013 Jared earned the Green Beret. One month later, while on a routine patrol, Jared was severely injured when his ATV ran over an improvised explosive device. He lost his right arm above the elbow and his right leg above the knee, and has undergone over 30 surgeries.
And now, thanks to a specially-equipped home courtesy of the Gary Sinise Foundation, Jared, his wife Jesica and son Aiden will begin the next chapter of their life in Jackson County.
By the end of the year, the Gary Sinise Foundation, through its R.I.S.E. Foundation will either complete or be in the process of building 46 specially adapted smart homes.
