In Carterville, The Egyptian Area Agency on Aging continues to offer a Memory Café at the First Presbyterian Church every other Thursday from 9am-11am. Our next ones are planned December 15th and 29th. For anyone wanting information on the Memory Café, upcoming health promotion classes, vaccine clinics, or any other service question related to older adults or caregivers, you can call thier office at 618-985-8311 or your local senior center.

In Carbondale, The Southern Illinois West African Drum Ensemble is hosting a public concert. Expect traditional West African music, drumming, dancing and holiday well-wishing on Thursday, December 22 at the Gaia House Interfaith Center in Carbondale. Free admission. The gathering starts at 5 p.m. with drumming beginning at 6:30. Attendees are encouraged to bring a potluck item. Contributions are appreciated in support of Gaia House. SIWADE has been learning and performing for over 28 years. The group is committed to using authentic percussion instruments, rhythms and songs as taught by master musicians from West Africa. Gaia House is located at 913 South Illinois Avenue at the intersection of Grand Avenue across from Southern Illinois University. In Marion, the Masonic Lodge is hosting a holiday blood drive for the American Red Cross on Monday from 1 to 6 pm at the Lodge on West Robinson Drive. You can find more information and book an appointment or to find a blood drive in your community at www.redcrossblood.org
