This week in labor history in 1931 – New York City’s Empire State Building officially opens. Construction involved 3,400 workers, mostly immigrants from Europe, and hundreds of Mohawk iron workers.

Locally, Liuna Local 773 is hosting a Take Kids Fishing Day at Herrin Park on May 20th from 9am to 1pm. The first 200 kids to register will receive a free fishing pole to keep plus kids and adults will enjoy a free lunch.
