In Carbondale, enjoy a day of solar telescopes, family-friendly hands-on astronomy, and science activities on Saturday, October 14th. Live feeds of the Annular Eclipse from across the country will be displayed on the big screen in the stadium, and NASA EDGE will be filming inside Saluki Stadium. Eclipse activities will be at SIU Saluki Stadium from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the SIU at Murray State football watch party at 2 p.m. in Saluki Stadium. |
 
In Pope County, The River-to-River Trail Society has planned a fall hike Oct. 21st at  Saltpeter Cave. This hike is free and open to the public but reservations are required This will be a hike of moderate difficulty, 5.5 miles in length, 4 hours hiking time. This will be a loop hike. Hikers should meet at 10:00 am at Lusk Creek Trailhead on Straight Street. Visit www.rivertorivertrail.net for more information including driving directions to the meeting area for this hike.

 
The Carbondale Branch NAACP will host its 46th annual Freedom Fund Program on Sunday, October 22 at 4pm at the Carbondale Civic Center. This year’s theme, Thriving Together: In Movement. In Culture. In Community, is to encourage thoughtful and purposeful dialog and actions around collaborative efforts to make democracy work for all Americans.
