The City of Carbondale has been awarded a nearly $2 million dollar grant to repave three important roadway corridors.

City officials say the grant requires no local matching funds, ensuring that the project will be completed at no cost to the City or residents.

The grant funds repaving projects for:
W. College Street from S. Forest Avenue to S. University Avenue
W. Cherry Street from S. Oakland Avenue to S. Illinois Avenue
Poplar Street from W. Mill Street to W. Oak Street

The City says this investment will enhance transportation safety, improve road conditions, and support long-term community development.

The resurfacing project is part of Governor JB Pritzkerโ€™s statewide initiative to modernize infrastructure and strengthen local economies.

City of Carbondale officials will provide updates on the project timeline as planning and design progress in coordination with the Illinois Department of Transportation.
