In Carbondale, an art opening reception will be held for SIU Alum, Kevin Morefield, a nationally acclaimed astrophotographer. He will share his work at a public presentation on July 15, 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center, 1740 Innovation Drive, Carbondale. No cost to attend but RSVPs are appreciated at innovation@siu.edu. Following the reception, Morefield will discuss how he became interested in astronomy, the setup of his equipment, and the processing of his images. Attendees will get to see some of his favorite shots and learn the stories behind them.
In Makanda, Sunup Hikes at Giant City State Park will be offered on July 12th and 26th from 6:30 am-8 am. Join the Park Naturalist for hikes that will vary from 1-3 miles and will be moderately difficult with some steep stair climbing.
