In Anna, The Constitution Week Art Exhibit is available for viewing through September 29th at The Anna Arts Center hosted by The Shawnee Hills Arts Council.
The Idea of Democracy in Southern Illinois, from 1700 to Present will be presented on Sunday September 22nd from 2-5pm at The Murphysboro Event Center. Ten of our region’s most distinguished historians will share the important history about how the idea of democracy evolved through our region. Jane Adams, Kay Carr, Darrel Dexter, Tony Girard, John Jackson, Aaron Lisec, Sharon Person, Kay Rippelmeyer, Judy Simpson, and Judy Travelstead will discuss four eras with the dividing lines being 1) the appearance of the French among the indigenous peoples, 2) the declaration of American independence, 3) the end of the Civil War, and 4) the lead up to World War II.
The League of Women Voters of Jackson County has organized a forum for candidates in the race for the Jackson County First Circuit Court Clerk. The candidates are Christian Hale and Chris Maynor. The Candidate Forum will take place virtually on Zoom on Thursday, September 19 at 6:30pm. Registration is required to attend on Zoom. Register at carbondalepubliclibrary.org/LWV
