ON THIS DAY in 2010 Post-apocalyptic zombie TV series "The Walking Dead" premiered on AMC.

Locally,

Each year, the Carbondale Police Department Christmas Store provides toys to children from Carbondale ages 1 to 10. The program also includes providing a new winter coat to each child. Coats for the children are donated through an annual Coat Drive, co-sponsored by the SIU Athletics Department.

--If you wish to register your child for this program, the dates to sign up are from October 21st to November 21st. To register please call the police department at 618-457-3200 Ext. 447 and speak with Elizabeth Sears or leave her a message.

--Donations of new children’s sized winter coats, new children’s shoes, or new toys can be dropped off in the lobby of the Carbondale Police Department and the Civic Center Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Financial donations from individuals or groups can also be dropped off at the Carbondale Police Department.

In Mount Carmel, Wabash Valley College (WVC) Originators are hosting a Country Jamboree Dinner Theatre on Friday, November 8th at 6:00 PM, Saturday, November 9th at Noon & 6:00 PM • Enjoy music from "keepin' it simple" with a delicious meal at this toe-tapping event. The River-to River Trail Society announces a Jackson County hike at Cove Hollow Cedar Lake on Nov. 9th . All hikes are open to the public free of charge. Contact hike leader, Cathy Jennings at 618-759-1924 with questions. Hikers will meet @ the trailhead at 10am. (In addition, the Society has a Trail Guide to the entire River-to-River Trail, which can be downloaded for free from the Society’s website) https://www.rivertorivertrail.net
