In Carbondale, Tharran Hobson, Southern Illinois Program Director for the Nature Conservancy (TNC) will present “Dog Tooth Bend”, a landscape-scale floodplain restoration project in Alexander County. Hobson will also discuss TNC partnerships with the Army Corps, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). The talk will focus on human dimensions of this project as well as restoration as natural infrastructure. Thursday, May 8, 2025, 7 pm. Park in the lot behind the Carbondale Township Hall Meeting Room, 217 East Main St. and enter through the back door. Sponsored by Shawnee Group Sierra Club, free and open to the public.

 
The Crab Orchard National Wildlife Visitor Center hosts many events for the community. On May 10th, you can Becoming an Outdoor Family: Cast Iron Cooking. The class will be held from 10am to Noon. Simply call the Crab Orchard Visitor Center to register.

Summer Camp enrollment for The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois is now open. Camp provides 8 weeks of fun and educational opportunities beginning June 9th from 7:30am to 5:30pm each day. There will be a parent orientation at the end of May. Learn more at info@bgcsi.org
