Explore handmade pottery of southern Illinois during the tenth annual Shawnee Hills Pottery Trail on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. This event is an open studio and pottery sale featuring works by thirteen potters at seven studio stops in or around Carbondale, Alto Pass, Murphysboro, and Ava. This event is free and open to the public. The River to River Trail Society announces its 10th public hike of the season on May 3rd at 10am. Hike Horse Creek Trail in Alexander County. This will be a very difficult loop hike for experienced hikers, very hilly, approximately 6 miles in length, 3.5 hours hiking time. The hike is free and open to the public. The leader of this hike can be reached at 708-471-7500 for more information. Hikers should meet at 10:00 am at the Horse Creek Trailhead. This hike is intended for people in very good health who have done some hiking. Hiking sticks and boots or sturdy shoes are recommended. Hikers should bring their own water and snacks.
