The Illinois Department of Transportation is hosting a career fair Thursday, May 22 in Carterville. The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at John A. Logan College in the Hancock Center/F Wing, 700 Logan College Drive. Parking is free and available in the gold and blue lots. Staff will be available to discuss technical and administrative support opportunities at multiple IDOT locations throughout the area. There will be workshops available from 10:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Room 119. Other state agencies will be on hand to provide information and assistance with applying for state jobs. A History of Herrin will be shown at Herrin City Library on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 3:00 pm. The movie is 41 minutes long and was produced for the city's centennial in 2000. Combining rare archival footage, vintage photographs, and contemporary interviews, the film chronicles Herrin’s rise as a coal-mining community, retail center, and industrial hub in southern Illinois. It was produced and directed by Gordon Pruett. The event is presented by the Herrin History Room and is free and open to the public.
