State Senator Dale Fowler is inviting students across the 59th Senate District to take part in his 2025 Summer Reading Program, designed to encourage young students to keep reading throughout their summer break. The program is open to students entering Kindergarten through 8th grade. To complete the challenge, participants must read eight books by August 8th then fill out a summer reading form, have it signed by a parent or guardian, and return it to Senator Fowler’s office. SIU’s Sharp Museum is hosting an evening of films celebrating Illinois’ LGBTQ+ history on Friday, June 13, while related exhibitions continue. The free, public event is from 5-9 p.m. in the museum auditorium and is part of the second annual LGBTQ+ Saluki Reunion Weekend.
