In Carbondale, the iconic Sunset Concert Series continues this week with family-friendly live music at SIU’s Shryock lawn and Carbondale’s Turley Park. Concerts run Thursday evenings through July 24 and feature a diverse lineup of performers. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the music under the stars. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. and last about two hours. They can bring refreshments or purchase food and drinks from on-site vendors. John A. Logan College will host its fourth annual Juneteenth Celebration on Wednesday, June 18, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the College campus. The event will feature food, live entertainment, special guests, and a community gathering to honor the significance of Juneteenth. There will also be art vendors, storytelling, poetry, and a raffle. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for comfort during the festivities. The Juneteenth Celebration at JALC is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend and take part.
The rolling hills of Southern Illinois take center stage during the Illinois Native Plant Society’s Statewide Annual Gathering, held June 20–22 at SIU’s Touch of Nature in Carbondale.
