· ON THIS DAY in 1928 American aviator Amelia Earhart becomes the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean (as a passenger), landing at Burry Port, Wales.

 

Marion Connects hosts Third Thursday events on Tower Square. You’re invited to join the fun on the Marion Square for free family activities on the third Thursday of each month. Tomorrow brings a country theme with line dancing, live music and food trucks. There will be vendors & fun for the whole family around the square beginning at 6pm. Comic Book Workshop with Do Art Productions: Join Jerry and Chet for a comic book workshop, where kids will explore the different languages of comics, from the eyes, to body posture, to the actual language within speech bubbles. The workshop is interactive and very creative with little tricks and turns to keep kids engaged. Best for ages 8-12 years of age. No registration necessary.

State Senator Dale Fowler is inviting students across the 59th Senate District to take part in his 2025 Summer Reading Program, designed to encourage young students to keep reading throughout their summer break. The program is open to students entering Kindergarten through 8th grade. To complete the challenge, participants must read eight books by August 8th then fill out a summer reading form, have it signed by a parent or guardian, and return it to Senator Fowler’s office. Forms can be mailed or dropped off at:
