A playful performance event that includes dinner while unpacking the story about the pokeweed plant is on Wednesday from 530 to 8pm at The Carbondale Civic Center. In Poke Sallet Sally, actor, playwright and chef Jerri X dispels myths about this native plant (Phytolacca americana) through stories that show how people used pokeweed for medicine and nourishment. The event is co-presented by a food systems planner, researcher and teacher. Lynn’s practice blends food, identity, place, and policy in participatory, community-centered ways. This is a free event, with a limit of 50 guests. Reservations are required.
