In Pinckneyville, The Perry County Jail Museum is offering a seasonal event.Haunted Tales from the Perry County Jail offers spooky true tales about Perry County’s past, this Friday at 5:30pm. This will be an outdoor event and is just one of many planned events to celebrate Pinckneyville Mardi Gras. More details at www.pinckneyville.com

Herrin City Library is offering a special Halloween presentation on Friday, October 31st at 2pm. Join licensed funeral director and embalmer, Brian Bailey, for a presentation on Grave Dowsing. Learn about his experience in locating unmarked gravesites. Meet at the Stotler Street entrance to the cemetery near the flagpole. Bring a chair. The event is presented by the Herrin History Room and is free and open to the public. At the Herrin City Cemetery 1320-1324 E Stotlar Street, Herrin, IllinoisBrian Bailey is an Illinois licensed funeral director and embalmer. He is a 1988 graduate of SIU – Carbondale, College of Technical Careers - Mortuary Science and Funeral Service program. He has been the owner/operator of Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna since 1997.The ability to dowse (or “witch” graves, as some refer to the process) is a natural rather than learned trait. Brian has utilized his experience in grave dowsing to assist a number of area families, as well as cemeteries, in locating unmarked gravesites. This information has also proven useful for genealogists and those researching family histories. Brian enjoys sharing his gift with others. Many are pleasantly surprised to find that they possess this skill also.

Haunted Hollow-October 19th, 11am to 4pm. Join us for a day packed with fall fun, silly scares, and memory-making magic for the whole family. From the Not-So-Scary Haunted Cabin to fall crafts, creepy crawlies, carnival-style games, and thrilling attractions like the rock wall and Giant Swing—there’s something for every age (and bravery level!). Costumes are encouraged, and the event runs rain or shine. So bundle up, dress up, and get ready to play! Admission is free, and just like a carnival, tickets for certain attractions are $1 each.

Saluki Spooktacular Homecoming Blood Drive is TODAY in the Student Center Renaissance Room on the SIU Campus. Donations can be made from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Donors will receive a free SIU Homecoming Blood Drive t-shirt while supplies last.
