SIU President Randy Dunn is recommending Carlo Montemagno for the Carbondale campus Chancellor position, and former Interim Chancellor Brad Colwell for a system Vice President position.

Montemagno is currently the Director of the Alberta Ingenuity Lab, and an engineering professor. In his visit to Carbondale, he told the campus community SIUC must decide what it wants to look like, and then work toward that goal. He also says the campus needs to do more to meet students' needs.
“Start looking at what are the needs of the students 5 years from now so that we’re in the position that we can uniquely recruit these individuals. We need to look at program duplication, we need to look at efficiencies that we get from how the program delivers, there’s a wide variety of different things.”
Montemagno was one of six finalists for the Chancellor's position. His appointment is subject to approval from the SIU Board of Trustees, which is meeting in Springfield this week. He'll be paid $340,000 along with one-time expenses for moving a stipend totaling $86,000. If approved, he'll start August 15 - one week before classes begin.
In a related matter, President Dunn also is recommending Brad Colwell for Vice President of Academic Affairs. Colwell most recently served nearly two years as Interim Chancellor at SIUC.
Colwell returned to SIUC in 2015 after serving as Dean of Bowling Green State University's College of Education and Human Development. If approved by the Board of Trustees, he'll be paid a $230,000 salary.
