SIU kicked off International Festival 2023 Monday and have special events planned throughout the week.
Dozens of international SIU students gathered at Woody Hall Monday morning for the International Parade of Flags to start International Festival 2023.
This year’s theme is “Nurturing the World Through Diversity”.
Freshman Shreeya Bhandari came to SIU from Nepal and says it’s important for different cultures to come together and learn from each other.
“I think our mindset will be spread like we can think in the other way and we can understand their point of view, their culture, their thing, and just be connected with all of them as a friend and as a family here at SIU.”
Peter Li started as the Director of the Center for International Education last week and says
festivals like this help students and the community learn about different cultures.
“It is important to learn to deal with the people of different culture. This is not not a country with just one type one people, and it's a immigrant country, so for that, we are preparing our student for the real world.”
The popular international food festival takes place Wednesday and a Cultural Show ends the week Friday night.
